Wisconsin has claimed 11 out of the top 20 drunkest cities in America. Four of the Wisconsin cities are considered in the top five drunkest cities in America based on recent surveys. Three of those cities are in Northeast Wisconsin. Appleton, Wisconsin is number one, followed by Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Green Bay, Wisconsin and Madison, Wisconsin. La Crosse, Fond du Lac, Wausau, Sheboygan, Racine, Janesville and Milwaukee also represented Wisconsin in the top twenty. The study has been released following the signing of a bill that increases OWI penalties in Wisconsin. 25.6% of adults in Green Bay are considered to be unhealthy drinkers and almost half of fatal car crashes involve alcohol. This is not the first study to indicate that Wisconsin is the drunkest state. With the consistent result of the studies over the past decade, it is highly likely that there will be increased police presence investigating drunk driving across the State. These studies may also lead to continued increased penalties for drunk driving. The legal limit in Wisconsin is .08. If you’ve been drinking, it is best to find an alternative transportation method. Most OWI offenses contain mandatory minimal jail sentences and have wide-reaching impact on people’s lives.
