As Guardian ad Litem (GAL), Attorney Adolph usually serves the children of Brown County. A GAL is a court appointed attorney who advocates for the best interests of the children in paternity, divorce, Child in Need of Protection/Services (CHIPS) and other actions affecting the family. Unlike privately retained attorneys who represent the interests of their client, as GAL the role is to be the child’s voice before the judge or court commissioner. A GAL conducts interviews, collects references and reviews court reports to assist in preparing a recommendation to the court. This report can assist the judge or court commissioner in determining placement, custody and other important factors regarding the child’s welfare. The rules regarding this important and rewarding aspect of Adolph Legal are discussed in Wis. Stat. § 767.407.
